As much as 85% of all internet sessions start with a trip to a major search engine. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of editing a website and adjusting off-website factors to yield a high search position for a specific word or phrase. A high "natural" search engine ranking for your website leads to higher levels of traffic that you do not have to pay for.

Search engines are filled with junk listings. Often times, junk listings for domain squatters and other advertising push relevant sites like your to the bottom of the rankings.  Search Engine Optimization is a service that evaluates your site and identifies how to best get your site ranked the highest.  Search engine optimization is not a magic bullet.  In most cases, our Indianapolis search engine optimization service can help push your site to the top of the rankings where it belongs.

Important: Search engines exist to connect web users with content that is relevant to their search.  Some search engine optimization use methods that present different content to search engines than end users.  Using these methods (some examples: ghost pages, cloaking, css masking, keyword loading, Google bombing) can result in your website being banned from being listed.  Before you attempt to optimize your site, consult with a professional.  Getting your site "unbanned" is expensive and takes a long time

Our Search Engine Optimization Process

With over 10 years of experience building websites, we've created a process for quickly improving your Indianapolis website's search engine optimization:
  1. Determine the best keywords for your site.  Often the language you use in marketing your company, product or service are not the same as how people search for your site.
  2. Align content language with keywords.  This step ensures top position for older content sensitive search engines like Yahoo, MSN and Ask Jeeves.
  3. Optimize "hidden" content.  Search engines look at the content of certain tags and attributes that are not visible to the user.  We optimize these tags and attributes using the keywords we've identified.
  4. Build a link network.  Find the most relevant sites and create reciprocal or one way links to your site so that Google and MSN will rank your site higher.
  5. Submit the site for inclusion in major directories and search engines.
  6. Submit an online press release to ensure that there are 20-50 short term links to drive spiders back to your website.
  7. Carefully monitor your site's position and notify you of any jumps forward or backwards.
  8. Update content and links as needed.

How many people search for my products?

You can find out if people are searching for your products by using the Overture!" keyword selection tool.  It's free and returns how many people searched for a keyphrase and similar terms on search engines that Overture!" supplies ads on last month.   Since Overture!" does not represent the entire internet, you need to multiply the number of searches it returns by 6 to get a more approximate idea of how many are looking for your products, services or company.  You can access the keyword selection tool here.

Why is my site not listed on Google?

Google works differently than other search engines.  Google weights the links pointing to your site highly in determining your site's position in the listings.  It is critical that these links to your website be visible (meaning Google can find them), related and from sites that Google considers important.  If you've engaged in "quick results for cheap" tricks to get a high Google rank and have disappeared, your website may be banned.

Why is my site not listed on Yahoo or MSN?

Yahoo, MSN and most other search engines use keyword prominence and content quantity to determine your sites ranking.  If your site does not contain the appropriate key phrases, you will not be listed.  You'll also need to make sure that your site has been submitted.

Indianapolis Search Engine Optimization Facts

How do I know if my site needs Search Engine Optimization?
This is easy.  Go to Google and try finding the products and services your organization sells. If you are already on the first page you don't need search engine optimization.  If you are located in Indianapolis, add Indianapolis to the beginning or end of your search.

My site is all graphic or flash, can it be optimized?
Yes, but you will get half the result you would get otherwise.  For 100% flash/graphic sites, we recommend that you redesign completely for best results.

How much does it cost?

$800-$1500 per web page.

Why so much?
Search engine optimization even for small sites takes considerable time and often quickly pays for itself.

I am a local company doing business just in Indianapolis.  Why do I need search engine optimization?
Internet Search Engines are replacing the phone book, especially with under 40 consumers.   If you want customers to find you, then you need to be listed on the first three pages of search results for your company's name, your products, your services and your key people.

Can Indy Associates guarantee a #1?
No. Rankings on search engines are controlled by the search engine, not by us.  Companies that guarantee positions often gain #1 placement by either targeting unpopular keywords or by deceptively buying pay per click advertising.
